Abstract

The Internet of Things (IoT) offers extensive opportunities for enhancing operational efficiency and empowering processes within the banking industry, ultimately leading to improved performance. This study aims to investigate the antecedents and consequences of IoT transformation in Iran's banking sector. Given its focus on developing a localized policy model for IoT implementation, the research is classified as applied and developmental. The qualitative phase involved ten semi-structured interviews with experts in banking and financial sciences. In the quantitative phase, the statistical population comprised the heads of selected banks across the country. Using grounded theory, a conceptual model for IoT transformation was constructed. Coding results revealed three core components of IoT in banking: supply chain integration, perceived ease of use, and security and privacy preservation. The causal factors influencing IoT adoption were categorized into four infrastructure types: scientific, technical, managerial, and communicational. Among these, technical infrastructure was found to have the highest impact, followed by managerial infrastructure. despite its perceived importance, managerial infrastructure demonstrated the least practical influence during implementation. The findings confirmed all research hypotheses and highlighted that technical infrastructure exerts the most significant positive effect on IoT transformation in Iran’s banking, followed by communicational, scientific, and managerial infrastructures.
