Abstract

Advanced technology transfer is essential for strengthening firms’ competitive advantage, yet the literature has predominantly focused on technology recipients rather than transferors. To address this gap, this study used text mining to identify and explain the dimensions and components of technology transfer from the perspective of technology transferors in high-technology firms. The full texts of 171 articles published between 2000 and 2025 were analyzed. Six clusters emerged: advanced technologies; technology transfer processes; policies and strategies; transfer capabilities; intellectual property protection and management; and challenges, opportunities, and barriers. Silhouette analysis showed that the intellectual property cluster had the highest cohesion (0.94). The findings highlight the central role of technical, legal, and contractual mechanisms for intellectual property protection in preserving transferors’ competitive advantage and preventing technical knowledge leakage. The resulting exploratory six-cluster framework provides a coherent conceptual classification of the dimensions of advanced technology transfer from the perspective of technology transferors and can support future field studies and empirically testable models. Its managerial and policy implications are relevant to knowledge-based firms, technology policymakers, and technology-transfer support institutions in developing economies, including Iran.
