Abstract

AMT is the nucleus of the factories of the future and plays the crucial role in the competitive battles in organizations all over the world. Successful firms have recognized this fact and are trying to leverage it for competitive advantage. Appropriate selection of AMT is a critical task faced by manufacturing management due to the high degree of uncertainty and the high capital investment involves in these investments.In AMT selection process managers have to give full consideration to their manufacturing strategy(competitive priorities). This paper provides new evidence on AMT investment patterns from the small and medium–size(SMEs) enterprises of textileindustryand develops a taxonomy by exploring the relationship between AMT investment patterns, competitive priorities and performance. The results of this study indicate that in AMT implementation process, firms considering their competitive priorities show better performance.
